Taite Heller
Pre-PA Health and Exercise Science Major at Wake Forest University
Taite Heller is a Health and Exercise Science student at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where she is also pursuing minors in Biology and Psychology. She has earned a 3.97 GPA and is expected to graduate in 2027. As a student on the Pre-Physician Assistant track, she is preparing for a future dedicated to healthcare and plans to attend PA school after completing her undergraduate education. Her experiences in academics, athletics, leadership, research, and community service reflect a strong commitment to personal growth and helping others.
Academic Success and Athletic Dedication
While pursuing her academic goals, Taite is also a Division I student-athlete on the Wake Forest University Dance Team. Managing the demands of collegiate athletics alongside a rigorous course load has strengthened her discipline, leadership abilities, and organizational skills. Her dedication to the team was recognized during the 2025-2026 season when she received the MVP Award for her performance and commitment.
For three years, Heller has trained and performed for more than 15 hours each week while maintaining a full academic schedule. Through her participation in the dance team, she contributes to the university community by performing at athletic events and engaging with spectators to create a positive, energetic atmosphere. She also participates in junior spirit programs that provide guidance and encouragement to young dancers. In addition, she represents the university, athletic department, and dance team at alumni and donor events throughout the year.
Her competitive experience includes annual participation in the Universal Dance Association National Championship in Division IA. Recognized as one of the most prestigious collegiate dance competitions in the nation, the championship provides an opportunity to compete at a high level while representing the university. During the 2025-2026 season, her team earned the DIA Gameday Live national championship, securing the program's first national title.
Leadership and Campus Engagement
Leadership has played a meaningful role throughout her college experience. Taite serves as a representative for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, an organization composed of student-athletes from across the university. The committee helps strengthen communication between athletes and the athletic department while supporting leadership development and campus involvement.
Through this role, Heller helps represent student-athlete perspectives, supports university initiatives, and promotes community engagement. In 2025, she was selected as the student-athlete voice at the Faculty Advisory Committee meeting for Wake Forest Athletics. This accomplishment marked the first time a member of the Spirit Program had been chosen to serve in this capacity.
Taite was also selected to represent Wake Forest Athletics at an event hosted through the Leadership & Character Development Program. During the event, she discussed topics including values, identity, team culture, positivity, and mindset. The opportunity allowed her to contribute to conversations focused on leadership development and the importance of fostering a positive team environment.
Research and Clinical Experience
Her interest in healthcare extends beyond the classroom through research and clinical opportunities. As a Research Assistant for IGROOVE-POWER, Taite worked in a geriatric movement laboratory alongside graduate students. Her responsibilities included collecting and organizing muscle power measurements at the knee and ankle joints using standardized testing protocols.
This experience provided exposure to geriatric research, functional movement assessment, and studies involving cognitive aging. It also allowed her to gain practical research experience while learning about non-pharmacological approaches that support health and wellness.
During the Spring 2026 semester, Heller served as a clinical research intern for The Osteoarthritis Prevention Study at Wake Forest University. This large multi-site clinical trial examines whether diet, exercise, and weight-loss maintenance can help prevent knee osteoarthritis in women at risk of developing the condition. Through this role, she gained valuable experience in clinical research and deepened her understanding of evidence-based healthcare practices.
Educational Support and Community Service
In 2024, Taite served as a virtual tutor through Wake Forest University. She worked one-on-one with a sixth-grade student in Forsyth County, conducting weekly sessions and developing personalized lesson plans and learning activities. Through consistent support and communication, she encouraged academic growth and fostered a positive learning environment.
Community involvement remains an important aspect of her work outside the classroom. Heller volunteers at Junior Spirit Clinics, where she mentors young girls from the community and performs alongside them during football events. These programs provide opportunities to encourage confidence, teamwork, and personal development through dance.
Taite also participates in Victory Day, an annual event hosted by Wake Forest Football in partnership with the Down Syndrome Association of Greater Winston-Salem. The event allows individuals with Down syndrome to participate in football activities and experience a full game-day environment.
During the Spring 2026 semester, Heller created “Dancing With the Deacs,” a dance class developed in partnership with the Down Syndrome Association of Greater Winston-Salem. Through this program, she teaches children and adults with Down syndrome while encouraging movement, self-expression, and confidence. The classes focus on the connection between physical activity and personal growth through dance.
Future Goals
As she continues preparing for a career in healthcare, Taite Heller has been selected to serve as a Teaching Assistant for Human Gross Anatomy. In this role, she will assist faculty members with cadaver preparation and dissection, support weekly laboratory sessions, and mentor fellow students. She is also pursuing her Certified Clinical Medical Assistant certification while seeking opportunities to gain direct patient care experience before attending PA school.
Through academic excellence, athletic achievement, leadership involvement, research experience, and meaningful community service, she continues to develop the knowledge and skills needed to make a positive impact in healthcare and serve patients with compassion and professionalism.
